On August 10, 2016, The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER), represented by Dinu Zamfirescu, President of the Scientific Council, and Radu Preda, Executive President, together with Octav Bjoza, President of the Association of the Former Political Prisoners in Romania (AFDPR), paid a last homage to the one who was Queen Ana of Romania.
Queen Ana of Romania passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016, at age 92.
She was a support for King Michael during the years he spent in exile. She also accompanied him when he returned to Romania in 1990, when their car was stopped by the police and sent back, as well as in 1992 when the authorities allowed for King Michael to go to Putna Monastery and Bucharest.
King Michael and Queen Ana were living in Aubonne, Switzerland, since 2004. Depending on their schedule, they would chose to spend the main Christian holidays at the Săvârşin or Elisabeta Palace.
