The Summer University of Râmnicu Sărat is the first of its kind in Romania dedicated to the study of the communist repressive system. Based on the concept “Prison of Silence, an Experience in Communism”, the 8th edition sets out to analyze the memory of the 1945 – 1989 period, from a historical and biographical perspective. IICCMER, partner of the ASTRA Summer School at the Râşnov History Film Festival
IICCMER is partner in the organization of this year’s ASTRA Summer School, which will take place in Râșnov during August 1st – 10th, 2014, at the VIth edition of the History Film Festival. The main topics of the Summer School and of the Festival are “The Great War” and “1989 – Did it happen or not?”. 15 students passionate about history will take part in the ASTRA Summer School. Şcoala Altfel (A different school) Educational Program at IICCMER: Human Rights in the Recent History of Romania
The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER), in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, is currently undertaking in Bran the program “A Different School: Human Rights in the Recent History of Romania”, addressed to high school students. Until April 10th, 20 students from all across the country are participating in creative workshops, film projections, presentations made the IICCMER experts, visits at the historical landmarks and other sociocultural activities meant to draw their interest towards studying the history of the communist regime in Romania.

The Râmnicu Sărat Summer University is the first summer school in Romania to be fully dedicated to the study of the Communist repression and incarceration system. The summer school set out to analyze the memory and the remembrance of the 1944 – 1989 period, from a historical, biographical and comparative perspective.
