The Campaign The Right to Memory. Reasons for having a Museum of Communism in Bucharest, organized by IICCMER and the Romanian Television during May-June 2015, was awarded Prize of the President at the 2015 Gala of the Romanian Filmmakers Union. The campaign was also nominated for “Best TV documentary” and “Jury Special Prize”. The documentary The Right to Memory. Reasons for having a Museum of Communism in Bucharest included seven episodes, each one dedicated to a certain period and specific topic regarding the communist regime. The DVD includes 25 episodes presenting the destinies of 50 former political prisoners. Their stories are examples of dignity and courage in a time of distrust and fear. Their anticommunist attitude put them in prison, where they endured tortures difficult to imagine. Knowing these stories is not only an act of moral justice, but also a way of exerting our right to memory.

Behind the Curtain [În spatele cortinei]

The documentary directed by Bogdan Mustață focuses on the process of communization undergone by the Romanian society during 1944 and 1951, addressing several topics such as the elimination of private propriety, the nationalization of industry, the beheading of the army, the falsification of the elections, the elimination of democratic parties and the abolition of monarchy. Its purpose is to present the Romanian and foreign audience with an outline of the establishment of the communist regime in Romanian and its repressive nature.

Each Thursday, starting with July 17th, 2014, between 11.00-12.00, historians, sociologists, anthropologists, theologians, politicians and scholars will come together to talk about our recent past,  lessons of memory and the amnesia of the present. 25 years after the Revolution, eight years after the official, spectacular and disputed condemnation of communism, we are still witnessing a nonchalant amnesia regarding the former regime. While for many people communism comes down to its criminal acts, more than half of the Romanian population regrets its fall.
