The Konrad Adenauer Foundation
Ever since its set up, right after the Second World War, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation assumed the role of helping to rebuild the democratic political culture destructed after the horrible experience of national-socialism. Together with other political foundations, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation contributes to the dissemination of the democratic values and to the strengthening of the rule of law. In time, the experience of post-war Germany also proved useful for other countries that had undergone similar experiences.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is present in 80 countries across continents, with projects developed in 120 countries. In post-totalitarian countries, KAS supports the institutions involved in the process of dealing with the traumas of dictatorship and war.
Set up in 1998, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bucharest brings together forces from both the political community and from the civil society around the ideal of European reconciliation. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation has been the external strategic partner of IICCMER since the latter’s formation in 2005. The Foundation has been financing and delivering expert knowledge to most of the IICCMER programs of civic and political education. To this day, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation stands by the efforts of IICCMER in providing an unbiased approach to the research of recent history.
