The Summer University of Râmnicu Sărat is the first of its kind in Romania dedicated to the study of the communist repressive system. Based on the concept “Prison of Silence, an Experience in Communism”, the 8th edition sets out to analyze the memory of the 1945 – 1989 period, from a historical and biographical perspective. The participants are invited to gain knowledge and discuss various ideological, social and political aspects of communism. Because the effects of the communist period are still felt today on a large scale in Romanian society, a better understanding of the recent past can contribute to a better understanding of current realities. The students will have the opportunity of taking part in debates and presentations on various topics related to the communist period, held by representatives of IICCMER, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, foreign experts, historians and researchers of communism and post-communism in Romania and Eastern Europe.

The target audience of the project are bachelor, master’s and PhD students aged 19 to 27 from the faculties of history, philosophy, political science, sociology, journalism, letters, law, theology from the Universities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The 25 participants will be selected based on the application form, which will be sent to IICCMER, 13-19 Alecu Russo St., 5th floor, apt. 11, District 2, Bucharest or to universitatea@www.iiccmer.ro. The applications will be evaluated by a jury made out of IICCMER experts. The selected candidates will receive further instructions. Appeals are not allowed. All expenses will be covered by the organizers.
